New Rules for Private Taxis. The Peshawar administration has launched a series of new regulations for private taxis to make city travel safer, reduce traffic congestion, and crack down on illegal transport services. The move comes after officials reviewed traffic conditions and public transport operations across the city.

Mandatory Registration for Private Taxis

Under the new rules, all private taxis in Peshawar must now register with the Excise Department. Registered taxis will have:

  • A standardized color scheme
  • Uniforms for drivers
  • QR-code stickers for easy verification

Authorities have warned that unregistered taxis will face legal action, including fines and vehicle confiscation.

Closure of Illegal Transport Services

To further improve passenger safety, the administration has ordered the closure of over 100 illegal transport operations. This includes:

  • Unauthorized rickshaws
  • Speed stations and other unlicensed vehicles

Operators of these services could face arrest if they continue running illegally.

Traffic Flow Improvements

Officials are taking steps to ease traffic congestion on major city roads:

  • Closing unnecessary U-turns on Charsadda and Kohat roads
  • Removing encroachments that block traffic
  • Relocating BRT stations that cause congestion to open areas

These measures aim to make traffic movement smoother for both commuters and freight vehicles.

Joint Enforcement Teams

The administration will form joint teams consisting of assistant commissioners, traffic police, and transport officials. These teams will target:

  • Illegal rickshaws
  • Qingqis (motorized rickshaws)
  • Loaders operating along the BRT corridor

This coordinated approach is expected to reduce congestion and enhance public safety.

Freight Vehicle Restrictions

To further control traffic, restrictions have been placed on trucks, tractor trolleys, and other freight vehicles, preventing them from entering major city roads before 10:00 PM.

Additionally, roadside check posts will be moved to open areas to ensure smooth traffic flow and minimize delays.

Conclusion

Peshawar’s new rules for private taxis and transport services aim to make travel safer, reduce traffic congestion, and eliminate illegal operations. With mandatory taxi registration, uniform standards, and strict enforcement, the city is taking a major step toward a safer and more organized public transport system.
